Carrie joined ARU in 2016 as the course leader for our postgraduate medical education programmes. She has a strong background in education, having taught children and adults of all ages in both formal and informal settings.

Background

Since 2009, Carrie has specialised in health professions education and has been involved in the design and development of a range of accredited programmes at postgraduate level.

In 2014, Carrie was awarded her PhD in the hidden curriculum of veterinary education, where she examined the role of the clinical learning environment on students developing professionalism. She has also worked on a range of multi-disciplinary projects across education and research translation.

Carrie has extensive experience of curriculum design and development in health professions education, providing students with the opportunity to develop their skills in teaching and learning and progress their careers along this pathway. She has worked with both employers and professional bodies to ensure the course content meets the requirements for the industry in which her participants operate. As a teacher, Carrie values active learning and formative feedback developing her students as lifelong learners who are able to continue their professional development beyond the classroom.

As well as a strong background in facilitating learning in a wide range of topics relevant to health professions education, Carrie has also taught research methods up to doctorate level and specialises in teaching qualitative research techniques to those from biological sciences backgrounds. As reflected in her research, she also has a keen interest in the teaching, learning and assessment of professionalism and other non-technical skills.

Carrie leads the PG Cert and MSc in Medical and Healthcare Education and the modules Core Concepts in Teaching and Learning and Curricular and Structural Concepts for Lifelong Learning.
