Background

Abhijit did his doctoral studies at the Université Libre de Bruxelles, Belgium under Prof André Preumont and a Masters in Structural Engineering with the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Following his doctorate, he worked as a research scientist with the Schlumberger Corporation, at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, and at Northeastern University in the United States. Following this, he worked as Associate Professor within India’s IIT system, where he was a Head of the Department, and developed an independent research programme through which he supervised five doctoral students. Before joining ARU in 2024, Abhijit was a Senior Lecturer at Liverpool John Moores University.

Abhijit has received several awards including the Diamond Jubilee Best Research Award from the Centre of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in 2021, the best research paper award from the Indian Society of Nondestructive Testing in 2019, and the Young Faculty Fellowship Award from the IIT system.

As well as being a regular reviewer of manuscripts for academic journals, Abhijit is a member with the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
