Around 3,000 people flocked to ARU Peterborough on Saturday [15 August] for the university’s annual Community Day, with visitors enjoying a packed programme of free family activities.

Among the popular attractions were a drone challenge, a flight simulator, a miniature railway and robotics demonstrations.

Visitors also had the opportunity to explore the skies in a planetarium, come face to face with a variety of animals, including snakes and lizards, and take part in hands-on activities led by ARU Peterborough academics.

Families were invited inside ARU Peterborough’s specialist facilities, including its state-of-the-art nursing and science labs, where they could experience the equipment used to train the next generation of professionals.

“It was fantastic to see so many people from across Peterborough and the surrounding area come together to enjoy our Community Day.

“This annual event is a celebration of what makes this university special. From the day we opened, our ambition has been to create a campus that is welcoming, accessible and rooted in the city it serves.

“From young children discovering science and technology through fun activities to adults finding out more about higher education opportunities close to home, it was wonderful to see so many people engaging with what ARU Peterborough has to offer.”
