Announcement from the Chair of the Board of Governors, Anglia Ruskin University

Published: 21 September 2018 at 06:00

Professor Iain Martin will be stepping down from his role as Vice Chancellor at Anglia Ruskin University (ARU), having been offered an opportunity to return to Australia to lead Deakin University, Melbourne.

Since Iain’s appointment in early 2016, ARU has made great progress in providing excellent education and pastoral support for our students, whilst continuing the growth and impact of our research. Most notably, I want to acknowledge Iain’s role in delivering Essex’s first School of Medicine, enabling ARU to educate the future generation of doctors, with the first 100 students starting their studies this week.

The Board of Governors will begin the process of recruiting Iain’s replacement shortly. Professor Roderick Watkins, Deputy Vice Chancellor (Research & Innovation) has been appointed as Acting Vice Chancellor from 21 October 2018.

The excellent work currently underway at ARU will continue, including driving growth in degree apprenticeships, the development of our facilities, and building partnerships and creating opportunities with industry, ensuring we are delivering on our vision to ‘transform lives through innovative, inclusive and entrepreneurial education and research’.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Iain for his contributions to ARU and wish him all the best for the future.

Dr Jerome Booth
Chair of Governors
