Lecturer receives diploma for her contribution to perioperative practice

A senior lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University has become the first person to receive a Fellowship of the Faculty of Perioperative Care at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh, in recognition for her contribution to surgical care.

Susan Hall is course leader for the MSc Surgical Practice at Anglia Ruskin University, which equips students to work in surgical teams in a wide range of specialities from urology to neuroscience.

Susan trained as a nurse in the 1970s and has worked in a variety of clinical environments as a theatre practitioner. Perioperative care is the care that is given to a patient before and after surgery.

The Fellowship is awarded by nomination, and Susan received her award at a diploma ceremony at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh earlier this month. Susan said: 

“From a very early age, I had an unwavering ambition to be a nurse. Once I started my training and set foot inside an operating theatre, I knew this was the specialist area for me.

“The opportunities offered as course leader for the MSc Surgical Practice at Anglia Ruskin University have enabled me to share my love of the Surgical Care Practitioner role with a wide cross-section of students.

“Receiving my diploma award at the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh was profoundly moving. Few people are able to realise their life’s ambitions as fully as I have done. My involvement with the Faculty of Perioperative Care of the RCS has greatly contributed to this and I feel privileged to be the first person to be awarded a Fellowship of the Faculty.”
