Anglia Ruskin University opens new gym in historic Chelmsford building

People in Chelmsford can get fit at competitive prices at The Old Factory, a new community gym run by Anglia Ruskin University (ARU).

The new facility at Globe House, adjacent to ARU’s Chelmsford campus in New Street, is now open to all with brand new state-of-the-art fitness equipment, free parking and a competitive pricing structure with some eye-catching opening promotions.

Members of the public can join for just £16.67 per month if signing up to a 12-month contract – but there are a variety of other membership options available, including a rolling monthly membership for £20. There are also discounted rates for ARU alumni.

The Old Factory, named as it is located on the site of the historic former Hoffmann ball-bearing factory, incorporates two studio spaces as well as spacious changing facilities and a large gym floor area with brand new cardiovascular and resistance machines and free weights.

There is also a dedicated spin studio, a fitness studio, two ten-metre sled tracks and a multi-functional fitness rig. Free parking will be available for users.

Martin Beaver, Head of Sport at ARU, said:

“We’re extremely excited to have moved into Globe House to provide a top fitness facility on the edge of the city centre for use by the entire community.

“We are confident that The Old Factory is not only extremely competitively priced, but has a unique sense of community, being open to all and not just students and staff at ARU.

“We’ve invested in brand new equipment and the large space enables us to run fitness classes and provide everything that people need to have fun and get fit in 2020.”

Globe House has been unoccupied since May 2018, and has been previously used as a gym by several different companies.

The Old Factory replaces ARU’s existing gym at the Mildmay building on its campus, although its sports hall will remain in use.
