An inspiring event designed to help students and aspiring professionals develop the mindset and skills needed to thrive in today’s fast-changing business world.

Held at ARU’s Cambridge campus, the event – Get Future Ready: Win in Business with an Olympian Mindset – welcomed students, staff and business professionals for an engaging session led by Richard Phelps, Olympian, former financial services leader, Chair of Henley Royal Regatta and Advisor at ProFinda AI, a recruitment tech company.

Organised by the ARU Business Clinic, the event explored how lessons from elite sport can be applied to leadership, employability and business success in the AI era. Attendees gained practical insight into building high-performing teams, developing effective strategies and leading with integrity.

Richard Phelps shared his experiences from both elite sport and senior leadership and business advisory roles, encouraging attendees to embrace resilience, adaptability and collaboration as key attributes for future career success.

Speaking after the event, attendees praised the session for its motivational and practical focus, with many highlighting the value of hearing directly from an accomplished leader with experience across both sport and business.

The event also marked the official launch of the ARU Business Clinic’s new “Get Future Ready” speaker series, which aims to connect students and the wider community with influential speakers, industry insights and employability-focused opportunities.
