International Undergraduate Scholarship

Starting an undergraduate degree at ARU? This scholarship can help with the costs of study.

Value

There are two levels of award.

Lower award – up to £5,000

  • £2,000 in the first year of your course*
  • £1,000 in each subsequent year of your course (up to a maximum of three subsequent years). We will deduct £1,000 from your tuition fees each year.
  • You must successfully complete each year to get £1,000 in the subsequent year.

*If you are studying at ARU in Writtle, you will automatically get £2,000 in your first year.

Higher award – up to £7,000

  • £4,000 in the first year of your course
  • £1,000 in each subsequent year of your course (up to a maximum of three subsequent years). We will deduct £1,000 from your tuition fees each year.
  • You must successfully complete each year to get £1,000 in the subsequent year.

Eligibility

You should be:

  • an international student (international tuition fee payer)
  • a new student, joining ARU for the first time
  • starting a taught undergraduate course at ARU in Cambridge, Chelmsford, Peterborough or Writtle
  • studying full-time, unless there are exceptional circumstances preventing full-time study
  • starting in Year 1 to receive £2,000 (Lower Award) or £4,000 (Higher Award)

If you are starting in Year 2 or Year 3, you will receive £1,000 in each year of your course.

If you have Accredited Prior Certified Learning (APCL), discounts will be adjusted on a pro-rata basis.

This scholarship cannot be combined with any other scholarships. However, you can get a Full Payment Discount in Year 1 if you pay your fees in full before teaching starts.

The scholarship is not available during work placements or for:

  • pre-sessional English courses
  • ARU College courses
  • foundation degrees
  • online / distance learning courses
  • degree apprenticeships or other work-based degrees
  • Study Abroad programmes

Depending on the terms and conditions of your funding body, you may not be eligible if you are:

  • sponsored by an organisation such as an employer, charitable body, or government department
  • receiving federal tuition fee loans

How to apply

There is no need to apply. You will automatically receive our International Undergraduate Scholarship if you meet the eligibility criteria.

You must meet all conditions of registration before the scholarship is awarded.

If you withdraw from your course, we will adjust the scholarship on a pro-rata basis.

How we assess your application

We review applications from all eligible international students.

  • For the Lower Award, we assess the overall standard of your application, including entry qualifications.
  • For the Higher Award, we assess the overall standard of your application. It should exceed minimum requirements, including entry qualifications.
