Application deadlines

  • Trimester 1 (September–December): 31 May
  • Trimester 2 (January–May): 31 October

Application process
If you are interested in joining ARU as a Study Abroad student, please email [email protected] to let us know.

Once you confirm your intention to apply, you will receive a personalised application link by email, together with full guidance, and access to our module catalogue.

Applications are completed entirely online. You will not need to send any documents by post or email.

Your place on the Study Abroad programme is only confirmed once your application has been reviewed and approved by ARU and you have received an official Letter of Acceptance.

Language requirements
Exchange students must provide proof of English proficiency.

  • One trimester (single semester): your home university can confirm your English level in a letter, we also accept IELTS, TOELF and PTE Academic.
  • Full academic year: you must submit an official test result such as IELTS, TOEFL, or Pearson PTE Academic.

Application documents
Please note: we only accept scanned documents in PDF. Photos taken on your phone are not accepted. When applying, you will need to upload the following documents:

  • Transcript of Records
    Your most recent grades in English, issued by your home university
  • Passport
    Valid for the full duration of your exchange
  • ARU Learning Agreement
    Use the ARU template, signed by you and your home university
  • Proof of English proficiency (non-native English speakers only).

Letter of Acceptance
We will review your documents and let you know if anything needs to be re-submitted.

Acceptance letters are sent from:

  • early May (for students starting in Trimester 1 – Autumn)
  • mid-October (for students starting in Trimester 2 – Spring)

Visa requirements

All our international students need a visa or permission to study in the UK.

(EU and EEA students follow a different application process. See Information for EU/EEA and Swiss students.)

One trimester (up to six months)

  • Non-European students: apply for a Standard Visitor visa.
  • EU, US, Canadian and Australian citizens: apply for an ETA.

Full academic year

  • You must apply for a Student visa and pay the NHS surcharge.
  • ARU will provide a CAS (Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies) to support your application.

Academic fees for students from non-exchange partners are as follows.

Academic year 2025-2026

  • 1 trimester: £6,100
  • 2 trimesters: £12,200

Academic year 2026-2027

  • 1 trimester: £6,400
  • 2 trimesters: £12,800
