Writing and Researching Queer Ecologies
ARU’s Sustainable Futures Knowledge Exchange programme continues to support researchers to explore the emerging field of queer ecologies.
Queer ecology is an emerging field that brings together queer theory and ecological science. Researchers and writers are exploring possibilities for queering our understanding of the beyond-human world.
This project began with a writing retreat near Writtle, in February 2024. Writers worked on fiction inspired by queer ecologies, landscape change and climate futures. We then held a lunchtime seminar for ARU colleagues, and PhD researcher Jaz Qureshi is now developing a new research project exploring queer approaches to scientific practice.
We also released two special issues of the Carmen et Error literary magazine on this theme in July 2024:
