Step into Chelmsford’s fascinating history of witch trials and folklore and discover how science can explain the mysteries behind the myths. Families can follow the city’s Witch Trail, uncovering the real science behind the moon, bubbling cauldrons, levitating broomsticks, and more. Hands-on activities will let young witches and wizards create their own “cauldron slime,” explore the chemistry of potions, and even try their hand at woodblock printing—blending creativity, history, and scientific discovery in one magical week.

Step into the cauldron of curiosity where magic meets science! Join us for a hands-on activity that blends the mystery of witchcraft with the wonders of chemistry. Budding witches, wizards, and scientists will roll up their sleeves to create bubbling potions and stretchy, squelchy slime.

As you stir, mix, and watch strange transformations unfold, you’ll discover that what looks like magic is actually the science of chemical reactions. Why does slime stretch? How do potions fizz and bubble? Together we’ll uncover the secrets behind polymers, acids, bases, and the colourful changes that bring our mixtures to life.

From cauldrons to test tubes, you’ll see that the power of potions isn’t spells at all—it’s science in disguise!
