Chelmsford Science Festival 2025 branded wording

Two of the biggest tech buzzwords of today are machine learning and quantum mechanics. But do they work together? Can developments in one help progress the other? And what might their future together look like?

In this talk, we’ll learn about what it means to practically do quantum science, focusing on the hardware behind using light as our qubits in integrated photonic systems. We’ll discuss how machine learning can be a help (or hinderance!) in the lab and dive into some of its current applications, before zooming out to look at the potential future of these fields.

With plenty of scope to ask questions, no prior knowledge of quantum or machine learning is required. Simply come along ready to learn something new, answer some trivia and (pity) laugh at some of my dreadful science puns.
