The Trusted Adult Scheme (TAS) mural was created at ARU in summer 2026 as a celebration of the creativity, experiences and contributions of the children and young people involved in the scheme.
Developed collaboratively with young people, youth workers and ARU staff, the mural reflects the importance of trusted relationships, belonging and giving children and young people a meaningful voice in the spaces and communities around them. It also represents the wider ethos of TAS: creating safe, supportive opportunities where young people can build confidence, develop new skills and form positive relationships with trusted adults.
The project was supported and funded by the Office of the Police and Crime Commissioner for Cambridgeshire and Peterborough and Access and Participation funding at Anglia Ruskin University. The mural was created with the involvement of street artist Kilo (William Pengelly), working alongside young people to turn their ideas and experiences into a permanent piece of artwork on the ARU campus.
The mural is more than a piece of public art. It is a visible reminder of what can be achieved when universities, practitioners, community partners and young people work together, and of the importance of ensuring that children and young people are not simply recipients of services, but active contributors to the projects and environments designed around them.
