Join us online to hear from Tríona McCaffrey on her research findings on the benefits of music for perinatal wellbeing.
There is mounting evidence to support use of music for perinatal wellbeing, yet few supports exist to inform pregnant women about using music for this purpose. This lecture will present on the Mums Using Music (MuM) programme, co-designed by music therapists, midwives and a Public and Patient Involvement Panel to empower pregnant women with knowledge and tools on how to use music for their wellbeing.
Throughout this presentation, music therapists will be encouraged to think about how they can bring their specialist skills to interdisciplinary collaborations that aim to promote greater awareness of music for wellbeing among wider population groups.
Tríona McCaffrey is Associate Professor of Music Therapy at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, University of Limerick (UL) in Ireland. She has practice experience in adult mental health, where she developed the first full-time music therapy service in this sector in Ireland. She has a strong track record of collaborative working with health service users and providers, completing several Public and Patient Involvement projects to date.
Tríona's research is most often interdisciplinary, with a key focus on music for mental health recovery and perinatal mental wellbeing. She is an editorial board member on the journal The Arts in Psychotherapy and has several academic publications and funding awards.
This event is part of the CIMTR Public Lecture Series 2025-26.
