Professor Odell-Miller strengthens links with Asian music therapy professionals

Anglia Ruskin's Head of Music Therapy delivers keynote speeches and visits hospital

In October 2016, Professor Helen Odell-Miller was invited to The Shanghai Conservatoire in China as part of the International Music Therapy Research Consortium. A two day public conference was held with 6 keynote lectures by members of the Consortium from the University of Melbourne Australia (Professor Felicity Baker), Temple University USA, (Professor Cheryl Dileo), Lemmens institute Belgium (Professor Jos De Baker), Aalborg University, Denmark, (Professor Hanne Mette Ridder) and Jyvaskyla University Finland (Professor Jakko Erkkilaa). The delegates also visited the music therapy department in a local Chinese medicine hospital, and held an open seminar with students. Professor Odell-Miller’s research keynote was about recent research, practice and theory in Forensic Music Therapy.

In November, Professor Odell-Miller was also invited to the Asian Music Therapy Conference in Taiwan as a keynote speaker, along with other international collaborators. Following the three day congress, she ran a two day workshop for visitors from all over Asia and Australasia, including from Hong Kong, China, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Taiwan. The participants included doctors, occupational / physiotherapists, carers, nurses, psychotherapists and music therapists.
