Anglia Ruskin PhD student presents research at University of Salamanca

In February 2017, Music Therapy PhD student Alexandra Georgaki was invited to the University of Salamanca to give a talk to students of their MA Research in Disabilities.

Alexandra spoke about ‘Research in Music Therapy and Autism’, about her role offering Music Therapy sessions to children with autism and Parent Counselling sessions to their parents. Some of the themes explored were culture, professional identity, attitudes towards disabilities and interdisciplinary collaborations.

She also presented the Trial of Improvisational Music Therapy’s Effectiveness in Autism (TIME-A) project, a four-year project funded by the Research Council of Norway, the National Institute for Health Research UK, Anglia Ruskin University and other collaborators.

Following the presentation, Alexandra ran a musical improvisation workshop where students had the opportunity to explore nonverbal communication through the creative medium of music-making.
