Emily teams with sister Alice on new children’s book

MA Children’s Book Illustration graduate Emily Haworth-Booth is about to release her third book through Pavilion Children’s Books – this time with a new co-author: her sister Alice.

Protest! How People Have Come Together to Change the World was written by both Emily and Alice, with illustrations by Emily. Split into themed chapters that explore the history of protests from around the world, including civil rights, women’s rights, LGBTQI+ rights and more, the book also examines forms of protest such as sit-ins, theatre, song, and even gardening. It will be published in hardback on 10th June 2021.

In a recent article for The Bookseller, the authors said: "It has been a dream come true to work together on Protest! Having been involved in activism for years, we’ve loved immersing ourselves in its history and telling the stories of movements that have inspired us. The whole process has been very collaborative, in keeping with the spirit of the book, which is all about working together. We have been making things together since we were children so to be able to do so professionally on a topic we are really passionate about has been wonderful and has kept us going through lockdown."

Emily has previously published two children’s books with Pavilion: The King Who Banned the Dark and The Last Tree. She was nominated for the Kate Greenaway Medal 2020, and has won several prizes including the Picture This! Illustration Award.

We wish Emily and Alice all the best for their new publication.
