Goal 3: Good health and well-being

The aim of Sustainable Development Goal 3 is to ensure healthy lives and well-being for all, at all ages.

The Goal recognises that improving health outcomes requires not only high-quality healthcare systems, but also prevention, education, and equitable access to resources that support physical and mental wellbeing throughout the life course.

Actions to support the goal, and address a spectrum of global health challenges, include access to healthcare, mental health, disease prevention, and wider determinants of health such as environment and lifestyle.

SDG 3 is a key strategic priority at ARU.

We are leaders in training the next generation of healthcare workers in our region, the East of England.

Across our campuses, we take a holistic approach to health and wellbeing, supporting not only healthcare provision and workforce development, but also the health of our own students, staff and communities.

From integrated mental health support and wellbeing services, to research-led teaching and partnerships with healthcare providers, we are committed to advancing healthier lives and more resilient communities locally, nationally and globally.

In 2019, we were ranked in the top 150 universities globally in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings for our courses in Pre-clinical, Clinical and Health subjects. We were ranked 1st in the UK and 20th globally for Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3) in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings 2022, reflecting our performance across health education, research, and support for healthcare professionals.
