Business

From Design to Delivery: Product, Profit and the Supply Chain
For applicants to: Supply Chain Management, Business, Finance, Accounting, Banking
Design a product using our advanced 3D machine and follow its journey through the entire supply chain. From sourcing materials to manufacturing and distribution, you’ll manage suppliers, logistics and finances while responding to realistic business challenges along the way. The experience culminates in a fast-paced 3-minute pitch where you present your strategy and decisions.


Computer games

Level Design Workshop
With a choice of level design activities, use industry-standard tools to manage how the space in the game influences the player experience. You might decide to challenge them with game mechanics, evoke particular moods, tell them a story, or involve them in a mystery. We'll discuss how these goals relate to the goals of the Computer Games Design degree and other games courses.


Education and teaching

Experience Education at ARU
Join us for an immersive Education taster day that will spark your curiosity and challenge your thinking. Engage with the 'Big Education Question' through an interactive Mentimeter activity, where your voice shapes the discussion. Dive into a hands-on session exploring the development of a child, using interactive equipment and exploring the campus for inspiration, to uncover answers to key questions. Conclude with a thought-provoking 20-minute lecture on topics such as ‘Education for All,’ ‘Global Education,’ or ‘Social Justice in Education.’ You’ll have the opportunity to connect with future course mates, meet our passionate lecturers, and experience what it’s like to be an Education student at ARU. What does it really mean to be an Architect? In this session, you’ll step into the role of architect, using your cognitive, problem-solving and personal experience to generate ideas. You’ll take the opportunity to discuss and analyse the responses as a group, drawing an overall picture of their diverse skills and responsibilities involved. It’s the perfect way to explore and gain important insights into this creative profession’s many facets.

Explore Architecture and their Designs
Architecture shapes our physical environment, influences quality of life and supports our economic development. In this session, you’ll learn how to apply design skills and being creative to a design of a building or structure. Along the way, you’ll explore why sustainability, functionality, and meeting a client’s brief are essential parts of successful architectural design.

From Concept to Construction: Build a Cable-Stayed Bridge
For applicants to: Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying

In this session, you’ll learn how to apply design skills and being creative to a design of a building or structure. Along the way, you’ll explore why sustainability, functionality, and meeting a client’s brief are essential parts of successful architectural design.

Build a Metal Detector using Arduino
For applicants to: Biomedical Engineering, Electronic and Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics and Robotics Engineering
Metal detectors play an important role in many engineering applications. In this interactive session, you’ll work as a team to explore how electronic sensors operate by building your own metal detector using Arduino. You’ll assemble a basic circuit using key components such as resistors, capacitors and an inductor (copper coil), powered by a microprocessors and microcontrollers. By programming the microcontroller with simple commands, you’ll bring your device to life and see how the sensing system detects nearby metals using the principles of electronic filter circuits and inductor sensitivity.

Unleash the Power of 3D Printing
Innovation drives the mechanical engineering world and in this hands-on session, you’ll experience it first-hand. Dive into 3D design and additive manufacturing using cutting-edge 3D design software to print a functional machine component or object. Along the way, you’ll discover core engineering principles such as structural efficiency and material optimisation, testing and refining your ideas just like real engineers do.

Explore the case of Doris from a public health, medical and pharmaceutical science perspective. Consider the cause of her medical problem and how to treat and prevent it. In the SuperLab, you’ll be hands-on as you perform experiments, including urinalysis and the identification of types of medicine as part of an investigation into an outbreak.

The challenge concludes with presenting your case in front of a judge and jury, just like in a real courtroom.
