Physiotherapy is a growing, respected profession in UK healthcare. As a physiotherapist, you’ll support people affected by injury, illness or disability. You'll do this through movement and exercise, education, and hands-on treatment, helping them recover and stay well. You’ll also play a key role in prevention, promoting healthy lifestyles and helping patients take charge of their own care.

Key facts

An apprenticeship is a chance to earn while you learn. You’ll build real-world experience in your role, while studying towards a recognised qualification.

At least 20% of your contracted working hours will be set aside for off-the-job learning. This is time away from your usual work duties to help you gain the knowledge, skills and behaviours needed to succeed as a physiotherapist.

Your off-the-job learning will include:

  • Weekly teaching days on campus
  • Online, lecturer-led sessions and learning activities
  • Full-time placements in a variety of settings
  • Practical experiences in your usual workplace

This curriculum meets the requirements of both the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy and the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC), giving you everything you need to thrive in the profession.

We'll support you every step of the way as you apply your learning in real clinical environments.

Assessment

We'll assess you at the end of each module, which will contribute towards the final award of your qualification.

You'll also undertake an End Point Assessment (EPA) to complete your apprenticeship. The EPA for this apprenticeship is integrated into the final course assessments. Successful completion of your degree means you complete your apprenticeship. You will then be ready to apply for registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) as a Physiotherapist.

We use a variety of assessments to ensure you can integrate your theoretical and practical knowledge in the workplace. Assessment types for this course include:

  • In-class tests
  • Practical clinical examinations (OSCE)
  • Presentations
  • Patchwork text
  • Critical writing
  • Reflective writing
  • Quality Improvement project
  • Placement Assessment Document (PAD) based on the CSP Common Practice Assessment Form

Modules

Each module will provide you with the opportunities to develop and practice your clinical skills to meet the HCPC. You will develop the ability to apply knowledge and skills learned, in a real-world clinical setting, working with a variety of service users, their families and carers. Simulation in the University Skills Laboratory supports practice in a safe environment.
