This year’s Early Career Researcher event will be held on Wednesday 3 April 2024 from 10am-5pm at Hughes Hall, Cambridge University.

The event will be held in-person and attendees are required to be physically present in Cambridge. This year the ECR Event is funded by the Consumer Lab. Find out more information on the Consumer Lab website.

Through a mixture of presentations by guest speakers, and group and panel discussions, the ECR event will cover a variety of fundamental topics within research, such as communicating projects and ideas, funding applications, and career paths within and outside of academia (see schedule below).

Attendees will be welcome to join us for coffee and an introduction session from 10 am onwards, after which the day’s sessions will commence at 10.30am.

A complimentary lunch will be served (catering can take into account any dietary requirements/restrictions given advanced notice).

After the afternoon sessions, join us for an informal social gathering at a local pub to get to know each other ahead of the main BFDG conference. Please note, catering at the pub is not covered by the event. To make it easier to chat to new people, you can opt-in to be randomly assigned in groups to walk over to the pub at registration.

Our networking opportunities this year extend beyond the ECR event – you'll also have the chance to be linked up with another attendee beforehand, allowing you to get to know one another in advance. Whether you're seeking to calm those pre-conference nerves we all know all too well about or are simply eager to meet new faces, opt-in to our buddy scheme when registering for the event!

Registration

Fill in our online form to register your attendance.

This is an in-person session with limited room space. If the number of sign-ups exceeds our room capacity, we will operate a lottery system to randomly allocate spaces.

Registration closes at 5pm on Monday 26 February and we aim to confirm successful registration with attendees the next working day.

If we have any spare capacity, we will re-open registration on a first-come-first-serve basis until Wednesday 20th March or until all spaces are full.

Please note: signing up for this event does not cover registration for the main BFDG event.
