Information event about new pathway into nursing

Cambridge University Hospitals has teamed up with partners Anglia Ruskin University to help beat the national nursing shortage.

Anglia Ruskin is one of only a handful of higher education providers currently offering degree apprenticeships in nursing.

CUH is to become one of the first to adopt a new four-year apprenticeship scheme meaning students can “earn while they learn”.

Successful applicants will get £15,404 a year, have tuition fees paid by the Trust – leading to a BSc (Hons) Nursing Degree – and enjoy the benefits of working in a world-famous hospital and sampling student life at university.

They will join the Trust as Healthcare Support Workers and have day release to attend Anglia Ruskin University to train as fully qualified Registered Nurses.

Chief Nurse, Ann-Marie Ingle, said:

“We are delighted to be working with our partners at Anglia Ruskin University on this pioneering initiative. It is an opportunity for applicants to develop the skills needed to forge a rewarding career as a nurse, gain a degree qualification free from debt, earn a good salary and do something positive for the community.”

Professor Ruth Taylor, Dean of the Faculty of Health, Social Care and Education, explained that Anglia Ruskin is one of only a handful of higher education providers offering degree apprenticeships in nursing, having started in September 2017.

“We are very excited about this new pathway into nursing, which allows people who might not otherwise have chosen a career in nursing to undertake a course that suits their needs.

“As well as vital hands-on experience, they will enjoy all the benefits of university life. We hope to welcome many people at our information event.”

The information event will take place at CUH between 10am and 3pm on Saturday 3 March 2018. For more information and to book visit aru.ac.uk/cuhnursingapprenticeship.
