ARU lecturer’s energy books to be read worldwide

Allan Drummond will talk about his series of children’s books at COP26 event
Anglia Ruskin University (ARU) lecturer Allan Drummond has co-produced a series of illustrated children’s books about sustainable energy and will present them at an online event in front of children worldwide this Friday as part of COP26.
The books have been developed and commissioned by the Commonwealth Secretariat and written by Allan to encourage children aged 7-12 to find out how they can be part of the change in the way the world uses and produces energy.
The series consists of three books: Road to Clean Energy, The Energy Around Us, and Energy and Me. All can be read or downloaded here, and are being distributed to children in all 52 countries of the Commonwealth.
The books approach different aspects of clean energy, and how it is produced, and form part of the Commonwealth Sustainable Energy Transitions (CSET) objective of encouraging collaboration among Commonwealth countries to accelerate the transition to low carbon energy systems and towards achievement of the UN Sustainable Development Goal 7 – Affordable and Clean Energy.
Allan will talk about the books at a hybrid event beginning at 9.30am on Friday (5 November). Around 30 people will attend in person in Glasgow, but the event will also be streamed online at https://climate.thecommonwealth.org/live
Allan, a Senior Lecturer in Illustration at ARU’s Cambridge School of Art, said:
“I am delighted to be speaking to children all over the world about this important book series. It has been a pleasure to work with the Commonwealth Secretariat to convey these vital messages on sustainable energy.
“With 60 per cent of the population of the Commonwealth aged under 30, children have a massive part to play in the transition to sustainable energy, and I hope these books can play an influential and inspirational role in that.”
