General Optical Council grants approval for new Foundation Degree
Anglia Ruskin University’s Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences has been granted approval by the General Optical Council to offer a directly registrable Foundation Degree qualification in Ophthalmic Dispensing.
The endorsement of the General Optical Council means that Anglia Ruskin becomes only the second “scheme provider” in the UK for dispensing opticians.
Speaking of the new qualification status, Head of Vision and Hearing Sciences, Dr John Siderov, said:
The Department of Vision and Hearing Sciences is an established and respected provider of education and training for dispensing opticians, offering both full-time and part-time courses.
Anglia Ruskin has been offering a Foundation Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing for 10 years, and in that time has developed a strong reputation amongst employers in the optical sector for providing high-quality graduates. The launch of the registrable Foundation Degree also coincides with the relaunch of Anglia Ruskin’s full-time Degree in Ophthalmic Dispensing.
The department will be showcasing the new Foundation Degree at Optrafair, the UK’s largest optical trade exhibition, taking place at the NEC in Birmingham between 9-11 April.
