Sociology students at ARU worked with national charity Deafblind UK to explore new ways of supporting people living with both sight and hearing loss.

As part of our Live Briefs programme, students were asked to research gaps in current services, identify potential partner organisations, and suggest ideas to help reduce social isolation for people with dual sensory loss.
Over several weeks, our students carried out in-depth research and shared a range of practical recommendations. These included connecting with the National Digital Inclusion Network, creating tactile signing communities, and developing accessible social spaces and events.
Their work gave Deafblind UK fresh insights and new opportunities to enhance its services – contributions that would otherwise have required significant time and resources.
"The research the students have done is incredible, and the references on the charities that they came across were really informational for the job that I do."

"I think our colleagues at Deafblind UK will really get a lot out of the presentations and the research that the students shared with us – I’m really looking forward to sharing it with our team."
