Ursi and Anna score double success in Batsford Prize 2017

Anglia Ruskin students both commended for their illustration work

We’re delighted to announce that two of our students, Ursula Tolliday-Bolland (BA (Hons) Illustration) and Anna Doherty (MA Children’s Book Illustration), have been awarded commendations in two separate categories of the Batsford Prize 2017.

The Batsford Prize is an annual award organised by leading art book publisher Batsford, an imprint of Pavilion Books, and run in association with artists' supplies company Cass Art. It and is open to students of art, fashion, illustration and related subjects. The theme of this year’s competition was ‘Interpreting Nature.’

Ursi (pictured top) received the runner-up prize in the Illustration category for her works ‘Desert’, ‘Jungle’, ‘Mountains’, ‘Ocean’ and ‘Arctic’, while Anna’s picturebook ‘Forest’ saw her win the same in the Children’s Illustration segment (pictured below).

The awards were presented during an event at Cass Art’s Islington flagship store, with judges including Adam Hargreaves (children’s author, illustrator and the son of Roger Hargreaves), Alice Pattullo (London-based illustrator and printmaker, author of An Animal ABC), Neil Dunnicliffe (Publisher, Pavilion Children’s Books) and Tina Persaud (Publishing Director, Batsford)

This year’s prize saw a record number of entrants, and honourable mentions also go to Cambridge School of Art students Cecilia Wood for Finding Nature in the City; Celina Buckley for The Salmon/The Lake/The Forest and Louise Warwick for Have You Heard… for also making the shortlists of their respective categories.
