Lele

Lele’s experience with the University of Cambridge’s Museum of Zoology was a classic case of ‘If at first you don’t succeed…', and shows the lasting effect that a single contact with industry can have on your future.

"Cambridge Museum of Zoology was looking for a volunteer illustrator from Anglia Ruskin to illustrate a sensory story part of their activities for individuals and groups with learning disabilities. I attended a very relaxed and informal interview with other peers to discuss the project but, in the end, they considered another artist for the role – but they kept my contact details in case of future activities.

"Shortly afterwards, I was commissioned for another project: a set of four illustrations for the opening of the museum. Even if it was a non-paid job, it was a wonderful experience. I took the opportunity as a way to respond as an illustrator to a real brief with a real client and a real deadline.

"I highly recommend any students to find placements related to their practice. Anglia Ruskin has a lot of opportunities and students can obtain real life experience and exposure. Also, if they don’t get the job, any interview will help them to learn and keep improving."
