Foundation Theory for Person-Centred Counselling and Psychotherapy

You will be introduced to Carl Rogers’ Person-Centred Theory, with emphasis on the six necessary and sufficient conditions for therapeutic change.

Personality Theory

This module gives you an overview and develops your insight into the significance of early experiences on emotional well-being and mental health.

Counselling Practice (Young Person)

This module aims to develop your ethical counselling practice and competent person-centred counselling skills in relation to young people, before you progress on to a clinical placement.

Personal Development and Peer Group Participation

This exciting experiential module helps you develop qualities necessary for therapeutic work such as sensitivity, self-awareness and a non-judgmental attitude.

Counselling Practice (Child)

This module will further develop and assess skills in practical work using play and art materials. You will develop your own set of resources to support therapeutic creative expression.

Historical Perspectives - Counselling Children and Young People

This provides you with an overview of historical foundations from which current therapeutic work has evolved. You will use self-reflection to deepen your understanding of theoretical approaches.

Investigating Your Own Practice

The purpose of the module is to prepare counselling practitioners for the process of investigating and evaluating their own practice in counselling. The module introduces you to current quantitative and qualitative evaluation methods in practice and considers their strengths and weaknesses.

Counselling Supervision

This module underpins the practical experience of clinical supervision with theory. You are supported in becoming autonomous reflective practitioners and will explore ethical boundaries and issues within supervision.

Contemporary Perspectives and Psychopathology

This module engages you in a critical analysis of contemporary psychopathology. It explores dilemmas and contradictions in clinical practice, and in working within the wider context of interagency working with children and young people. Central to the module is a focus on psychological problems and recent developments in neuroscience.

Counselling Case Study

The purpose of this module is to encourage you to appreciate the links between client work, personal development, professional development and supervision. In addition, it gives you the understanding and tools needed to present their client work within a professional arena.
