Work Placement (120 credits)

This module is designed to help you prepare for your future career in the agricultural and horticultural sectors by gaining realworld work experience. The module gives you the opportunity to gain commercial awareness and a deeper understanding of your potential future contribution to this sector and its affiliated industries. Through your experience, you will gain workplace learning in the context of the organisation’s culture, its aims and objectives and be able to analyse and evaluate organisational structures, roles and functions. The placement is your choice, but you will be supported to find a work placement(s) which reflects your interests and career ambitions, and you will use the external networks you have been encouraged to make in your previous modules. You will be expected to manage work tasks to meet deadlines, work independently and in teams whilst also learning to use a range of interpersonal, intellectual, practical (functional) and transferable skills gained through your study. These will need to be adapted to suit the enterprise’s working ethos and its commercial setting. Your work placement allows you to demonstrate your readiness for the world of work, your professionalism and ability to contribute positively to an employed setting and to evidence skills that are valued by graduate recruiters. The assessment for this module requires you to actively engage with Career Pulse to enable you to demonstrate your skills to a prospective employer. You can begin your placement at any point from July to September and must total 36 weeks with a minimum of 30 hours of a week. The placement will take place between Year 2 and 3 of your studies.
