This major project module allows you to engage in a substantial piece of secondary research focussed on a topic relevant to your business degree award and specialist subject area under the supervision and guidance of a member of academic staff. This module requires you to develop their chosen topic into a specific project under the guidance of your supervisor. Supervisors will discuss with you contemporary research problems and issues based on their research and practice, and you'll be required to conduct literature reviews, evaluate and critically appraise a range of information, investigate and adopt suitable theoretical frameworks, research methodologies and methods, and process and analyse data to produce a coherent and justified solution to the problem(s) identified. Throughout the module your supervisor will support you in terms of content and skills development so that you can work semi-autonomously on your individual research project. This is achieved through regular supervisory meetings throughout the year, which will allow for individual discussion of the tasks that will have to be completed in order to develop the project smoothly. You'll receive formative and constructive feedback from your supervisor in order progress your research to a conclusion. Attendance at meetings and engagement with the proposed tasks are essential to successful completion of the project.

The Professional Project module aims to use your Masters-level learning, and to blend academic and industry partner expertise to offer you relevant exposure to real-world project work within a campus-based experience. It requires you to conceptualise, execute, analyse and reflect upon your own learning experiences and apply them to an industry project. Working in small project groups, over the trimester you will collaborate with your peers, working on multi layered weekly complex tasks which link to the solving of a larger industry identified problem. You will get the opportunity to gain professional experience in different settings and tackle issues using problem evaluation, solution and analysis gaining a deeper understanding of the industry/business sector. Being part of a project team will need you to understand human relationships, contribute to tasks, listen, negotiate and make decisions in a timely manner, presenting back to the wider group at regular intervals. Learning and using key soft skills in a professional environment will help to enhance attractiveness to employers after completing this course. The module expects you to have a high level of independence, be proactive with peers, engaging positively with your team and completing independent work to agreed timelines, as you would do in the professional work environment. There are weekly timetabled sessions where specific tasks are set, but there is an expectation that you are self-driven to complete the directed learning tasks. Outside of timetabled sessions, you will be guided to work in your project teams, drawing upon the resources in the university to work towards providing a solution to the problem presented. Also, regular tutorials are scheduled along with options for input from our industry partner to aid the independent project teamwork. To enhance your professional skills for future employment, you will be supported to complete a career plan and part of this will be to identify and engage with several Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses during the module. These CPD courses, which would be immersed within the module, can be improving core work skills or developing new ones. Evidence of completion would be submitted as part of the assessment in the module. You will need to be in good academic standing from year 1 to opt for this module. The module will build on the Preparation for Professional Experience module which must be passed in Year 1 of your course. This Professional Experience module is a pass/fail module in Year 2. The assessments are designed to be industry facing and support the skills needed to develop your career profile. In this module assessments are completed as a group and individually during the trimester. Upon completion of the module, you will receive a formal letter of achievement which is endorsed by one of our industry partners. This letter can be used as further evidence of your professional experience to enhance your CV.

By integrating your taught academic expertise within a work environment, the module provides valuable professional experience in a real-world setting. Prior to the module commencing, you'll proactively secure either a work placement with a host organisation or an internal placement in an on-campus ARU work setting. You can decide which opportunities best suit your career goals and circumstances. You'll be supported in identifying suitable placement opportunities by the ARU Employability Services and academic supervisors. You'll actively participate in identifying and securing a suitable, approved placement. This process offers first-hand insight into the job application process, preparing you for future professional endeavours. Once a placement is confirmed, you'll collaborate with the host organisation or internal ARU work setting and your academic supervisors to design a tailored experience that meets the needs of all parties. During the placement, you'll engage in a variety of tasks, observe daily operations and shadow experienced professionals, this will give you a broad understanding of workplace dynamics, organisational structures, and professional cultures. This module provides significant professional exposure. By participating in day-to-day activities, you'll gain insight into the challenges and responsibilities encountered in a professional setting. You'll have the chance to develop and apply essential soft skills, such as teamwork, communication and problem-solving, in a professional environment. Regular discussions with mentors will allow you to reflect on your experiences and evaluate your learning journey. A high level of independence and initiative is required for this module. You'll need to positively engage with your host organisation or internal ARU work setting and academic supervisors, meeting agreed timelines and maintaining professional standards.
