Getting extended real world professional experience in a planned supportive environment provides amazing learning and career development opportunities. This unique module aims to use your masters level learning and blend academic and industry partner expertise to offer you relevant exposure to real world project work within a campus-based experience. This Professional Live Project module requires you to conceptualise, execute, analyse and reflect upon your own learning experiences and apply them to an industry project. You will work in teams with your peers. Over the trimester on weekly complex tasks which link to the solving of a larger industry identified problem. You'll get the opportunity to gain professional experience in different settings and tackle issues using problem evaluation, solution and analysis gaining a deeper understanding of the industry/business sector. There are weekly timetabled sessions where specific weekly tasks are set, but there is an expectation that you are self-driven to complete the directed learning tasks. Outside of timetabled sessions, you'll be guided to draw upon the resources in the university to work towards providing a solution to the problem presented. Also, regular tutorials are scheduled along with options for input from our industry partner to aid the independent project teamwork. To enhance your professional skills for future employment, you'll be supported to complete a career plan and part of this will be to identify and engage with several Continuing Professional Development (CPD) courses during the module.

This work placement will provide you with a range of opportunities to grow your knowledge and skill base with relevance to your future career aspirations. Use your masters level learning, with a blend of academic expertise and in-work mentoring and support, to offer you professional experience in a real-world setting, offered by services and areas within an external industry partner. Prior to this module commencing, the academic supervisors and the ARU Employability Services will offer you support to find a suitable work placement opportunity. This process of finding and being selected by a host organisation will offer insight to the job application process. To increase your chances of securing a placement, you will need to be in good academic standing, fully engaged with the process, and meet tight deadlines. You’ll get the opportunity to learn by working with experienced professionals in their workplace, experiencing different settings, different roles and observing the problems encountered day to day. There will be regular opportunities to discuss the work schedule and tasks with your mentors. You will be able to assist your mentor in tasks and be asked to reflect on the experience with your academic supervisor. You can immerse yourself with the role, experience a variety of organisational structure and operations, staff behaviour and culture. By getting involved in day-to-day activities, you’ll understand human relationships, contribute to tasks, listen, and learning about activities of a professional job. Being in an organisation, learning and using key soft skills in a professional environment will help to enhance your attractiveness to employers after completing this course. The experience will take place over a minimum of 3 days / 20 hours placement time each week. Outside of the placement hours, there is an expectation that you are self-driven to complete the directed learning tasks using the wider university resources to work towards the planned assessments.
