This module will offer you a deep dive into marketing and sales strategy. You’ll critically evaluate sales and marketing theories and gain insights vital for strategic decision-making. Emphasis is placed on the role of innovation in product and service design within the marketing context. By the end of this module, you’ll be able to create marketing and sales strategies including setting objectives and methods to monitor implementation of sales and marketing plans. Examine how to segment and target relevant markets and customers and analyse opportunities and ways to market in relation to your own organisation. You’ll understand the importance of innovation in product and service design to improve business performance and aid growth. You’ll explore the use of customer insight and analysis of data to determine and drive customer outcomes and improve customer relationships and analyse the use of creative approaches in developing solutions to customer need. You’ll do this through learning about key marketing principles including the marketing mix, branding, key models such as SWOT, PESTLE and BCG, market segmentation, metrics and pricing, data analysis and marketing in a global context.
This module aims to highlight and explore developments and future digital trends in business, enabling you to prepare for and adapt to these trends by understanding their potential impact on teams, clients, and the overall organisation. You’ll develop an understanding of digital transformation trends in businesses; assess how innovation and digital technologies can impact organisational growth and development; consider the ethical and legal considerations in digital transformation and look at strategic planning for digital integration. You’ll use quantitative and qualitative analysis to identify service / organisational improvements and opportunities for innovation and growth and learn to analyse information and data to benchmark business performance. You’ll articulate the business case for digital technologies in relation to data and knowledge management in an organisation.
This module provides you with a comprehensive understanding of project management principles and practices, aligned with the Chartered Manager Degree Apprenticeship (CMDA) standards. You’ll explore the entire project life cycle, from planning and design to development, deployment, and evaluation. Key topics include defining projects and programmes, understanding roles and responsibilities, and applying project management methodologies. By the end of this module, you’ll be able to demonstrate an understanding of the key stages of the project life cycle and their application in a business setting. You’ll be able to examine the use of risk management models and reporting in your organisation. You’ll be able to apply the fundamental principles of project management including, planning, budgeting, resourcing and risk management to achieve organisational goals; and demonstrate the application of project management tools to effectively plan, implement and monitor progress of a project.
This module offers you the opportunity to build on your experiences from Year 1, focusing on your role within your organisation, and explore your career journey towards achieving Chartered Management status (CMgr) and future career goals. It covers essential topics such as talent management approaches and learning and development within the organisation. You’ll get a chance to reflect on your own strengths and weaknesses, and appraise your own performance, enabling you to implement a personal and professional development plan (PDP) aligned to personal and organisation objectives.
This module provides an in-depth exploration of Human Resource Management (HRM) practices. You’ll learn to understand and evaluate recruitment strategies, explore inclusive talent management approaches, and utilise HR systems to meet legal obligations, ensure safety, and support employee well-being. The module also focuses on developing practical skills in team building, task delegation, and goal setting, empowering participants to motivate their teams and ensure accountability.
This module guides you in understanding and demonstrating financial strategies, including budgeting, financial management, and accounting, and how to provide financial reports. It covers essential topics such as procurement and contracting, legal requirements and the commercial context in which an organisation operates and evolves. You’ll learn to manage budgets, control expenditure and produce and analyse financial reports. The module also explores the differences between financial accounting, management accounting and financial management, and emphasises the importance of strategic financial management in relation to organisational strategy.
This module will provide you with a deep understanding of business strategy and operations, crucial for effective leadership and management within an organisation. You’ll explore the fundamental question of what strategy is and its pivotal role in organisations. The module covers comprehensive analyses of both the external and internal environments, enabling you to make informed strategic decisions. You’ll look at key topics including the role of strategy in organisations; analysing the external environment and internal environment; stakeholders, ethics and risk including CSR; the key principles of sustainability; strategic analysis and developing strategy; organisational structures and control systems; operational plans and implementation. You’ll also look at change management models, managing change in the organisation and the role of leadership in change.
Through a substantial work-based project within your own organisation, you’ll gain the opportunity to apply academic business knowledge and skills to real-world scenarios. You’ll engage in individual and team problem-solving, take part in decision-making processes, and develop your business research and presentation skills. The module emphasises structured reflection to support continuous personal and professional development. Through this project, you’ll also get the chance to develop your skills in academic writing, qualitative and quantitative research methods, critical analysis, and ethical considerations in research.
You’ll reflect on the results from the CMI Management Diagnostic tool, evaluating your skills and identifying key areas for further development using the CMI Career Development resources. The module is designed to enhance your workplace competencies. The focus is on your development as a leader and manager, aligned with your organisation’s strategy for developing a sustainable workforce using learning and development and employee wellbeing programmes.
Through this module, you’ll gain an understanding of the different inclusive leadership styles and models. You’ll identify your own leadership style and how to adapt to a variety of situations. The module covers key areas such as coaching and mentoring, organisational culture and diversity management as well as approaches to conflict management and dispute resolution and the use of negotiation and persuasion in personal interactions. You’ll look at leadership theories and frameworks, including Trait theory, Behavioural models, the Style approach, Situational and Contingent leadership, Charisma and transformational leadership, Authentic leadership, and Followership.
The Work Based Major Project module allows you to engage in a substantial piece of individual research within your business and management field, focusing on a topic of your choice that contributes to the effectiveness of your workplace and aligns with your professional interests. The project topic will be assessed for academic challenge, supervised by an academic staff member, and must have the support of your employer. The work-based major project forms part of the requirements for passing through the gateway to End Point Assessment for the apprenticeship.
